Smell Like Dirt

In Spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” Margaret Atwood

Put all your egg(shells) in one basket!

Another Down & Dirty tip using eggshells to feed the birds.  Eggshells are high in calcium and if you put them out for your birds to eat, it will give them “strong teeth and bones” as the saying goes, but will also give them the nutrients they need to lay strong eggs this spring.  So start putting those eggshells to work instead of putting them in the trash.

Great tip! I have been crunching mine up “fresh” and putting them in the compost…not so great at breaking down that way. We have so many birds coming through our little forest every winter…this will be a great way to treat them. Thanks!

I’ve never heard that before…what a great idea! Thanks for the video instructions. I’m definitely going to try it!

Great tip, I never thought of that. Saves from trash and for many the use of water/electric when doing down a disposal.

Yet in a way it feels sort of cannibalistic to feed egg / egg shells to the birds.

Not cannibalistic…think of it as like chewing on their toenails……eeewwww…..
